After going 2-1 on a short road trip, the Sixers return home to take on the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks in their last home game before the All-Star break. They’ll hit the road again for another three games before next weekend’s festivities in Orlando. At 19-11, Dallas is second in the Southwest Division behind San Antonio, and enters comes to Philadelphia riding a five-game winning streak.
11-time NBA All-Star and reigning Finals MVP, Dirk Nowitzki leads the Mavericks’ attack. Nowitzki’s production is down somewhat compared to his championship-winning form last season, but he is averaging 22.4 points per game during the Mavs current winning streak. Veterans Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion and Vince Carter are going to have to step up their roles as the Mavs play with a depleted backcourt. Reserves Jason Terry and Rodrigue Beaubois will not be available on Friday night due to personal reasons, and Delonte West has been listed as day-to-day after fracturing his finger.
The Sixers, who are 5-4 in February, will look to get back to their winning ways before heading back on the road for dates with Minnesota, Memphis and Houston. Lou Williams has been averaging 17.9 points in February, and is coming off one of his best performances this year which saw him score 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field, 2-for-4 from beyond the arc and 5-for-6 from the line. He also handed out 7 assists and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Sixers will once again count on the play from their second unit to take advantage of the shorthanded Mavs.
