KEY MATCHUP
Bismack Biyombo vs. Roy Hibbert
In Sunday’s loss to the Pacers, Bismack Biyombo had eight rebounds but struggled offensively as he was held scoreless in 24 minutes of playing time. Roy Hibbert’s size and length make him tough to score on in the post, so Biyombo will need to use his athleticism to try and get a couple of easy buckets on the fastbreak to get his confidence going… Hibbert had a double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds) against Charlotte on Sunday and caused problems for all of the Bobcats bigs. What makes Hibbert really effective is the ability to pass the ball, which makes double teaming him tough to do. Look for the Bobcats to try and throw different guys at him, as well as different defenses to try and confuse him.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS (4-27)
In the game against the Pacers, the Bobcats struggled shooting from the field. They missed 17 of their first 18 shots and found themselves down 21-2 in the first quarter. However, the problem was not that they were struggling to get shots. They had some wide-open shots for some of their best players, but the shots were just not falling. Charlotte hopes the home rims will be friendlier when they return to Time Warner Cable Arena®. The Pacers are a great defense in the half-court due to great size and length, so getting easy buckets in transition against them is also a necessity.
SCOUTING THE PACERS (19-12 as of 2/21)
The Pacers jumped on the Bobcats early on Sunday, getting out to a 21-2 lead, leaving the Bobcats to expend their energy trying to battle back the entire contest. One of the main reasons for Indiana’s success came on the boards, where the Pacers outrebounded Charlotte, 55-31, and limited Charlotte’s chances to get out in the transition game. The Pacers have a lot of players that can score, as all five of their starters average double-figures, led by Danny Granger at 18.3 points. It is this balance that makes them tough to beat. Even if you slow down Granger, they have plenty of other guys capable of having big nights. The Bobcats have to play great defense at all five positions to give themselves the chance to win.
